Online sustainability lessons

Northern Beaches Council have partnered with Keep Australia Beautiful NSW to offer sustainability lessons with EnviroMentors. 

There are 4 modules to choose from - Recycling, Composting, In the Bin, Litter & Waterways. Each module contains an interactive element.

Your school has access to the program over Term 4 2021 at no cost. Registrations close Friday 30 of October 2021.

School Canteens Swap for Good

Council offers a program to support your school canteen in the move away from single-use plastic.

Swap for Good includes personal support and assistance, information on alternative materials, education, resources, sustainable supplier lists, events and collaboration opportunities – all with the aim of providing ideas, solutions and alternatives to single-use plastics.

A guide to a plastic-free school canteen webinar was held on 19 November 2019.

'The Litter Bug and Lisa the Litter Guard' booklet

Follow Lisa the Litter Guard as she helps the Litter Bug learn about waste on the Northern Beaches. This 20 page booklet includes questions and activities and is suitable for primary age students.

You may want to adopt our Swap This For That Campaign and encourage students to take The Pledge to reduce their personal use of single-use plastic.

Clean Up Australia - Schools Clean Up Day

Inspire students to learn about the impact of rubbish on their local environment while playing an active role in their community. Teachers and students can work together to clean up an area like a playground or local park.

Environmental documentaries – educational screening licences available

The following award winning documentaries highlight the impacts of plastic pollution and offer solutions. Council can provide educational screening licences for these documentaries to Northern Beaches Schools.

Rubber Jellyfish – We all know that throwing rubbish on the ground is littering, so why is letting a balloon float away seen as something different? Rubber Jellyfish is a feature-length documentary that explores the effects of helium balloons on the environment, wildlife and human beings. Watch the trailer.

A Plastic Ocean – An adventure documentary shot on more than 20 locations over the past 4 years. Explorers Craig Leeson and Tanya Streeter and a team of international scientists reveal the causes and consequences of plastic pollution and share solutions. Watch the trailer.  DVD can be borrowed from Waste Education.
