Over 100 community members gathered at Mona Vale Library on Saturday 3 September to mark the library’s 50th anniversary.

Mayor Michael Regan paid tribute to the library and acknowledged the community commitment to its development. The Mayor highlighted the efforts of Olive Beaton who turned the first sod of earth at the commencement of the library’s construction in 1971. The Mayor, together with Olive’s daughter, unveiled a picture of Olive that will be displayed in the library’s Beaton Room.

The Member for Pittwater and NSW Minister for Infrastructure, Cities and Active Transport, Rob Stokes thanked those who had served the community working at Mona Vale Library over the years.

Many former staff were in attendance with memories celebrated throughout the afternoon.

The library space lit up with a beautiful performance by Mona Vale Public School choir who led the crowd in a rousing ‘Happy Birthday’.

The afternoon was concluded with an entertaining journey through the history of Mona Vale given by members of the Local Studies team.

A joyful and fitting celebration- 50 years of enriching the community.
