Malurus cyaneus

The Superb Fairy-wren has a high-pitched, trill call.

They live in open forests, swamps, coastal areas and gardens. Family groups forage together, looking for food on the ground. They eat insects.

The mature males of the species are known by their contrasting, bright blue and black feathers. Both the male and female wrens feed their young.

They were voted the Australian Bird of the Year in 2021.
