Antechinus stuartii

The Brown Antechinus is a small (7-14cm), carnivorous, marsupial found in woodland and forest habitats.

They are mostly nocturnal, coming out at night to hunt insects such as beetles, spiders and cockroaches and occasionally, small reptiles and frogs.

During the day, they can be found in large communal nests in tree hollows, crevices or ground logs.

They are known for their 'suicidal' mating habits, that result in an early death for the male Antechinus and their babies live in a pouch for up to 50 days.
