Threatened, Endangered or Vulnerable, What Does It Mean?

The term threatened is used to describe species that are are classified under State or Federal legislation as either Vulnerable, Endangered, or Critically Endangered.

  • Vulnerable species are those that face a high risk of extinction in the medium-term future;
  • Endangered species are those that face a very high risk of extinction in the near future;
  • Critically Endangered species are those that are facing an extremely high risk of extinction in the immediate future.
